Ticino Swiss Italian Restaurant

ADDRESS:

415 Banff Ave

MAINS:

$ 27 - $ 46

Ticino Swiss-Italian Restaurant has been family-owned and operated since 1979 and the owners are proud to support local suppliers (like Valbella Meats, local farms, BC wineries, the Banff Roasting Co. and the Banff Tea Co.). That kind of passion for local combined with a love of European dining means a memorable experience you’ll want to linger over. Try the cheese fondue, a house specialty featuring a mixture of imported Gruyère and Emmental: share as an appetizer or enjoy as a main course. Though, if you have a fondue main (options include cheese, beef, or seafood options), you’ll miss out on one of the other entrées (elk, bison, duck, lamb, beef, and Wiener schnitzel all have a place on this menu). Decisions, decisions!

You may find it a challenge, but leave room for dessert!  The torta di noce e miele (caramelized nuts and honey pie) is not to be missed (unless you go for the tiramisu). You know what? Take a friend and share. Problem solved!

Tucked away in the Sundance Mall might not be the first place you think to look for a great ramen place, but let me tell you - that’s exactly where you should go if you’re lusting after authentic Japanese ramen. Try the tonkatsu ramen, a super popular classic - it’s authentic and delicious. Head chef Kentaro Seki is passionate about his Japanese roots and brings a deep commitment to excellence to every item on the menu. Whether you prefer seafood, vegetarian, beef, pork, or chicken, you’ll find something to tickle your fancy here. It’s almost like popping into a popular neighbourhood ramen place in  Tokyo - except, of course, you are surrounded by the Rockies. If that doesn’t sound like the best of both worlds, I don’t know what does!

Ask about the daily specials and no, don’t be put off by the sometimes long line. That’s a good sign!  Good things come to those who are patient…

There is steak and then there is steak sizzled on the grill at the Cowboy BBQ Cookout in the heart of the Rockies. Is there a difference? Ah..duh.. YES, Pard'ner!

First, you choose your ride. Depending on whether your are feeling like Cowboy or Pioneer, you have the choice between horse or wagon. Either way, breathtaking scenery abounds all the way to your Western destination awaiting you at Mile 3.

As the talented Cookout Crew get to fixin' your meal, there is plenty of fun to rustle up. Try your hand at playing Horseshoe or by testing out your lasso skills. Yes, I said lasso.

With your appetite nicely worked up, you saddle up to your table and enjoy your meal: Alberta Beef steak, perfect potatoes, baked beans made from scratch, crisp salad, and tasty squares, I assure you, there's nothing like it in Banff.

Oh, and then there is the voyage home. With your belly full and you feeling a little more John Wayne than before you left, the unmatched views of the Sulphur Mountain Trail and the Windy Knoll will be the perfect cherry on this experience.

Everything in Banff seems to be named after local wildlife, so you may be wondering if the Bison Restaurant actually serves bison. The answer is a resounding, Yes! You’ll find bison striploin, short ribs, rib-eye, bison burger and ragu on the menu, but that’s not all they have to offer. The Bison Restaurant prides itself on preparing farm-to-table meals featuring ingredients from local, family-run farms. Check out the curry-roasted cauliflower, escargot, elk poutine, spiced lamb rack or wild mushroom pizza. No matter what you you’re craving, you’ll always find something scrumptious on the menu. Because the focus is on fresh, local, and seasonal, the dishes are constantly changing, but you’ll never have to worry about finding something delicious to tickle your taste buds.

Did I mention the views? Gorgeous. When the sun goes down and the mountains disappear, watch the chefs at work in the open kitchen. Yep, you really know where your food comes from when you dine at the Bison!
