ADDRESS:

415 Banff Ave

MAINS:

$ 27 - $ 46

Ticino Swiss-Italian Restaurant has been family-owned and operated since 1979 and the owners are proud to support local suppliers (like Valbella Meats, local farms, BC wineries, the Banff Roasting Co. and the Banff Tea Co.). That kind of passion for local combined with a love of European dining means a memorable experience you’ll want to linger over. Try the cheese fondue, a house specialty featuring a mixture of imported Gruyère and Emmental: share as an appetizer or enjoy as a main course. Though, if you have a fondue main (options include cheese, beef, or seafood options), you’ll miss out on one of the other entrées (elk, bison, duck, lamb, beef, and Wiener schnitzel all have a place on this menu). Decisions, decisions!

You may find it a challenge, but leave room for dessert!  The torta di noce e miele (caramelized nuts and honey pie) is not to be missed (unless you go for the tiramisu). You know what? Take a friend and share. Problem solved!

Once upon a time when I was farming, I raised lamb, which is when I acquired a taste for this most delicious of meats. It always makes me happy to see locally-produced lamb on the menu! At the Larkspur, Sungold Lamb from Alberta is served with green peas, picked mint, and heirloom carrots. (Confession: I was a tad disappointed the lamb is only offered as a small plate.) Then I spotted the salmon main (pesto-crusted and served with roasted cauliflower, chick peas, and tahini curry) and all was well in my world again.

Local, sustainable, and in season offerings are the result of the farm-to-table philosophy underlying menu choices at the Larkspur. The charcuterie board reflects that approach with its assorted Valbella Meats, pickled veggies, spreads, and rustic bread. The result is distinctly regional and very Canadian— with a cosmopolitan flair.
